Dental Anxiety

Do you feel anxious or ‘sick’ just thinking about
going to the dentist or receiving dental care?

Do you avoid dental care altogether, until there is
an emergency and you can’t avoid it?

Dental anxiety refers to the fear of receiving dental treatment or going to the dentist.

Common causes include:

  • Past traumatic, difficult or painful dental experiences.
  • Experience with an uncaring, impersonal or cold dentist.
  • Hearing someone else’s traumatic dental experience.
  • Insensitive, humiliating remarks by a dentist or hygienist.
  • Fear of not being in control.
  • Fear of someone invading a very personal space.

You are not alone!  Did you know that 75% of US adults experience some degree of dental fear from mild to severe and that 5 to 10% have such severe fear they avoid dental care at all cost!
