Fear of Driving on Highways and Bridges.

Many of us have anxiety related to driving. And with thousands of accidents taking place each year, these fears can feel quite justified.   A common example is the fear of driving on highways.

If you have a fear of driving on highways, you’ll probably still drive on local roads, but you’ll tend avoid freeways, bridges, tunnels and other situations that limit your ability to “escape” the road. You may also avoid left turns, unless there’s a traffic signal with an arrow, because you want to avoid getting “trapped” in the intersection.

Why are people afraid of highway driving?

In general, the fear of driving on highways is not about the highway itself, or the speed of travel. It’s about your ability to cope with unexpected circumstances, and stop your car when you need to. Essentially, it’s about control.

When you’re on a local road, you know you can pull into the next parking lot, if you really have to. You always have an escape route, or a way to “get out”. But when you’re travelling on a highway, that freedom is taken away. You’re stuck in the flow of traffic, and your control is gone.

Direct Neurofeedback is an Excellent Alternative to Counselling for High Stress Situations.

Direct Neurofeedback is a brain technology that allows your brain and body to relax.

It does this by sending imperceptible micro-signals, specific to your condition, that helps your brain get out of frozen and stuck patterns.

Results are Exceptional.

The effect is like rebooting a frozen computer.

Why is Direct Neurofeedback so Effective?

How can Results be Achieved Right Away?

"Direct Neurofeedback's effectiveness in treating things like Anxiety, Stress and Fear of Driving on Highways and Bridges and other emotional conditions - lies in the fact that each one of these conditions is a REACTION to the stress - not the stress itself."

"This repeated reaction over time causes certain brain patterns to become stuck, unique to each individual."

"Direct Neurofeedback targets those stuck neural patterns and disrupts them using a painless micro-signal (300 times less than what a cellphone emits) allowing the brain to reset itself and create new pathways - effectively changing itself and no longer experiencing the situation as being stressful."    Claire Maisonneuve, director Alpine Clinic.

Common concerns about highway driving:

  • Something will happen on the highway that you can’t handle, causing severe anxiety about being “trapped” in such a situation.

  • You’re afraid of harming other people, and you avoid highways so you can’t be the cause of someone getting hurt.

  • You’re afraid of getting lost, so you avoid highway driving to prevent getting yourself or your passengers lost.

  • You’re afraid of how other drivers will behave.

  • You’re concerned that other drivers are judging your ability on the road.

  • You have a passenger who is highly critical of your ability to drive on the highway.

  • If you’ve been in an accident, you’re worried that you’ll be in another one.

Statistically, it’s actually safer to drive on the highway than on local roads, at least from the number of accidents taking place each year. But like most fears, your fear of highway driving isn’t rational.

We can treat your fear of highway driving:

You don’t have to live with your fear of driving on highways. You also don’t need to feel embarrassed about the problem. There is nothing “wrong” with you. We all have different types of fears and anxieties. By seeking help, you can overcome your fear of highway driving.
